ATA Engineering takes great pride in our co-op and internship program, which is at the heart of our recruiting effort for finding future full-time employees. We believe that our co-op program develops outstanding engineers, which is why we have offered co-op and internship opportunities for as long as we have been in business. In fact, approximately 20% of the engineers who currently make up ATA’s full-time staff started their working relationship with our company as co-ops or interns. We regularly involve our co-ops in project work for customers, and give them many different opportunities to try and solve real problems early in their education, thus creating a hunger for information, methods, and tools to solve these problems. Students return to school after each work session more motivated to learn and anxious to take on the next set of classes, and typically return to ATA ready to try out what they have learned on a new set of challenging applications. This alternating exposure to fundamental education and real engineering applications builds career satisfaction, deeper learning, and self-confidence that is dramatically observable in our graduating co-ops.
As a consulting company specializing in a broad range of engineering solutions, we work on a number of high profile engineering programs spanning many industries, from aerospace programs to entertainment to well-known mechanical products. As a co-op or intern with ATA you will work side-by-side with recognized experts in many mechanical engineering disciplines such as acoustics and structural dynamics, modal testing, and thermal analysis. Most ATA projects have a co-op student on the project team who works with the experienced engineers, and we encourage our engineers to allow the co-ops to carry as much of the engineering load as he or she can handle. We also encourage our engineers to explain the technology in the project and build the engineering student’s understanding such that on the next project the student can handle even more of the engineering. Each work session, our students are able to carry more of the engineering responsibility, and by their last session many of them are able to independently complete projects with the senior engineers reviewing their work and answering their questions. ATA projects are like a continual progression of “design-build-fly contests”, only the ATA projects are for real customers with real problems, real schedules, and real requirements!
ATA recruits the best engineering students from the top engineering schools around the country. We are looking for students with proven academic success in the mechanical, aerospace and structural engineering fields, and an enthusiasm for finding solutions to mechanical and aerospace structural and design challenges and problems. Because many of our contracts require access to government, defense, and/or classified material, we cannot consider your application unless you are a U.S. citizen or possess a U.S. Permanent Resident card.
