The seamless data sharing that is possible between NX Fibersim design and manufacturing software and Simcenter 3D Laminate Composites structural analysis software can help to ensure that your as-manufactured composite parts meet engineering specifications. Join us for this webinar to see how this built-in integration reduces discrepancies between the analytical model and as-manufactured parts.

As laminate composites have become widely used in industry, understanding and accurately predicting the performance of manufactured parts has become increasingly important. Even when your structural analysis group has specified a certain layup to meet a project’s requirements, difficulties can arise in both communicating the ply layup from analysis to manufacturing and ensuring that the manufactured ply schedule still meets your engineering requirements. These challenges become especially apparent in high-curvature parts that may result in fiber angle distortions due to layup draping.

Integration between NX Fibersim and Simcenter 3D reduces this uncertainty by streamlining the communication from the analyst to your Fibersim specialist. Simcenter 3D can export ply layup data to Fibersim, which can be used to generate the ply layup schedule. Also, Fibersim can export the manufactured ply schedule back to Simcenter 3D so that the analytical model can be updated to match the as-manufactured as opposed to idealized ply layup. This process allows you to predict the performance of your as-manufactured parts before they enter production.

This live webinar will demonstrate this bidirectional communication between analysis and manufacturing using Simcenter 3D and NX Fibersim. Plies will be exported from Simcenter 3D in HDF5 format and imported into Fibersim, and this data will be used to generate a manufacturable ply layup. Fibersim will then be used to export this ply layup back to Simcenter 3D, where the layups will be updated to match the orientations of the ply layup and then used for performance verification. We will then be able to see where and how the as-manufactured part differs from the analytical part due to ply draping.

In this webinar, we will discuss:

  • Where Simcenter 3D and NX Fibersim each fit in the product lifecycle
  • Bidirectionality of Simcenter 3D and NX Fibersim for layup schedule development
  • Ease of communication of the analytical model to manufacturing for ply development
  • Verification of performance of the as-manufactured part as compared against the idealized analysis model
