President of ATA Engineering Among 2014 Caltech Distinguished Alumni

Dr. Mary Baker, ATA Engineering president, has been recognized for her pioneering entrepreneurship and leadership in aerospace.

SAN DIEGO, Calif., March 19, 2014 – ATA Engineering, Inc., (ATA) a nationwide provider of innovative, high-value test- and analysis-driven mechanical engineering design solutions, today announced that Dr. Mary Baker, President of ATA Engineering, has received one of the California Institute of Technology’s six 2014 Distinguished Alumni Awards, the highest honor for alumni from the Institute.

The Distinguished Alumni Award, first presented in 1966, recognizes achievements of noteworthy value and careers of noteworthy accomplishment. For Dr. Baker, the award is being bestowed for her pioneering entrepreneurship and leadership in aerospace.

Following graduation from Caltech with a Ph.D. in applied mechanics, Dr. Baker joined Structural Dynamics Research Corporation (SDRC) to work on space applications, specifically working on major NASA projects including the Space Shuttle and Shuttle-recovery efforts. In 2000, she helped lead the spinoff of ATA Engineering from SDRC and championed the company’s focus on providing innovative solutions for complex mechanical engineering problems in aerospace and other industries. According to Caltech, Dr. Baker “has been at the leading edge of engineering design, testing, and analysis” throughout her career.

Dr. Jeff Young, Chairman and General Manager of ATA Engineering, congratulated Dr. Baker on her award, stating, “It is a delight to see Mary’s significant contributions in aerospace recognized with this prestigious honor, which also represents an affirmation of the outstanding team of professionals that she has helped build here at ATA. We are proud to have her leadership.”

This award will be presented to Dr. Baker at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2014, in Beckman Auditorium on the Caltech Campus.
