In May 2016, Gordon Pfeiffer presented “Design, Analysis, and Manufacturing Success with NX” at the 2016 PLM Connection Conference. This presentation describes ATA Engineering’s development of a novel prototype aircraft drag management device known as an engine air-brake (EAB), which uses vanes to create a swirling outflow from the thrust-generating exhaust stream. NX was used to develop CAD assembly models and arrangements, model mechanisms including the vanes, linkages, and hydraulic rams, perform structural analysis on components, and generate manufacturing drawings. For more information along with test videos of the design in action, check out this article.
